Employee Onboarding And Offboarding
Start Fast. Exit Clean. Every Step Compliant.
The beginning and the end of an employment relationship are where most compliance risk lives. Onboarding sets the legal foundation. Contract, payroll, benefits, tax forms.
Offboarding determines your financial exposure. Notice, severance, statutory entitlements, government filings. We manage both ends of the lifecycle so neither one creates a problem for you.
What Canada’s Public System Covers
Onboarding
Once your service agreement is in place and employee documentation is complete, we move fast:
- Province specific employment contract drafted, reviewed, and signed.
- TD1 federal and provincial tax forms collected and processed.
- Social Insurance Number verified.
- Direct deposit and banking details configured.
- Payroll set up with correct federal, provincial, and municipal deductions.
- Benefits enrolled. Health, dental, vision, RRSP, life, disability.
- Workers’ compensation registered for the applicable province.
- Employee handbook and HR policies provided.
- First pay cycle confirmed and scheduled.
Your employee is working within days of accepting the offer.
Offboarding & Termination
Ending employment in Canada carries specific legal obligations that vary by province. We manage the process:
- Termination entitlements calculated under the applicable provincial ESA. Notice period, termination pay, and severance where applicable.
- Common law considerations assessed. In most provinces, common law notice entitlements exceed ESA minimums, particularly for longer-tenured or senior employees.
- Record of Employment (ROE) filed with Service Canada within the required timeframe.
- Final pay processed including outstanding wages, accrued vacation pay, and any statutory entitlements.
- Benefits cessation managed. Group plan coverage terminated on the correct date, conversion options communicated to the employee.
- Documentation prepared. Termination letter, separation agreement where appropriate, and compliance records maintained.
For complex terminations, Bridgewater TI can connect you with our network of Canadian employment lawyers who can advise on risk, draft settlement agreements, and ensure the process is handled correctly.
