Hire Tech Talent In Canada Through BridgewaterTI - Employer Of Record

Compliant Employment. Provincial Accuracy. No Canadian Entity Required.

You’ve found the right person. They’re in Canada. Now you need to hire them compliantly, quickly, and without setting up a Canadian legal entity

That’s the problem we solve. As your Employer of Record, we become the legal employer of your Canadian team members. We handle employment contracts, payroll, tax remittances, benefits, and compliance with federal and provincial employment law. You manage their work. We carry the legal and administrative responsibility.

Every province in Canada has its own employment standards, tax rules, and statutory requirements. Getting any of it wrong creates real liability. Our job is to make sure it’s done right from day one.

How The Employer Of Record Works

The EOR structure is straightforward, but the compliance behind it is not.

Here’s what it looks like in practice.

  • We are the legal employer. Your Canadian team members are employed through our Canadian entity. We hold the employment relationship, which means we carry the legal obligations: Employment contracts, statutory deductions, remittances, Records of Employment, and termination compliance. This is what allows you to hire in Canada without incorporating here.
  • You manage the work. Day-to-day management stays with you. Project assignments, performance reviews, team integration, reporting lines. All yours. Your Canadian employees work as part of your team. The EOR structure is invisible to them in practice.
  • Provincial compliance is built in. Employment contracts are drafted to comply with the specific province where each employee works. Tax calculations, statutory holiday entitlements, overtime rules, vacation accruals, and termination requirements all reflect the correct provincial standards. An employee in Ontario is not treated the same as one in Québec or British Columbia – because the law doesn’t treat them the same way.

What We Handle

This is not a platform you log into. We do the work, and we take responsibility for getting it right.

Compliance and Risk Management

We ensure every employment relationship complies with the applicable federal or provincial employment legislation. That includes proper employment contracts, correct statutory deductions, lawful termination processes, and compliance with human rights and privacy legislation. When rules change – and they do, we update your employees’ arrangements accordingly.

Payroll Accuracy and Remittances

We calculate gross-to-net pay for every employee, apply the correct federal and provincial deductions. CPP, EI, income tax, and any applicable provincial levies are all covered, and we remit everything to the CRA and provincial authorities on schedule. Employees are paid in Canadian dollars. Payslips are compliant and issued every pay period.

Employment Contracts

Every employee receives a contract drafted for their specific province of work.
These are not templates with a province name swapped in they reflect the actual statutory minimums, notice periods, non-compete, and benefit entitlements that reflect local enforceability standards.

Provincial Obligations

Each province sets its own rules on minimum wage, vacation entitlements, statutory holidays, overtime, leaves of absence, age of employment, and termination. Québec adds the QPP, QPIP, and French language workplace requirements.

We track and apply all of it, across every jurisdiction where your employees are based.

Benefits Administration

We set up and manage supplementary benefits including group health and dental plans, vision coverage, RRSP matching, and life insurance. We also provide guidance on equity and stock option treatment under Canadian tax rules.

Onboarding and Offboarding

New employees can often be onboarded within one to three business days once documentation is complete. When someone leaves, we handle the termination process in accordance with provincial law, issue the Record of Employment, and manage any statutory obligations.

Why Tech Companies Use EOR For Canada

The H-1B visa process in the United States has become more expensive, more competitive, and less predictable. Hiring through a Canadian EOR sidesteps that entirely. No visa applications, no sponsorship fees, no lottery. You hire the person you want, and we employ them in Canada on your behalf.

Time zone alignment is a practical advantage. Canadian employees work the same business hours as US teams, which means real-time collaboration without the friction of offshore time differences. Your Canadian team members join the same standups and ship in the same sprints.

Canada has deep talent pools in software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and data science. Cities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montréal, and Waterloo produce experienced professionals across these disciplines. The Canadian dollar exchange rate can also work in your favour when budgeting for Canadian hires.

Types Of Tech Companies We Work With

We support tech companies at every stage, from early-stage startups making a first Canadian hire to enterprise organisations scaling distributed engineering teams. Our clients include companies in:

  • SaaS and cloud software
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning

If you need to hire in Canada and don’t have a Canadian entity, EOR is the compliant way to do it.

Already Have A Canadian Entity?

If your company already has a Canadian legal entity, you may not need EOR. We offer two other services that might be a better fit:

Managed Payroll. We run your Canadian Payroll end-to-end – pay processing, tax remittances, T4 filings, provincial compliance, and reporting. You keep full control of the employment relationship. We handle the payroll operations.

Professional Employer Organization (PEO). A co-employment arrangement where we share employer responsibilities with your entity. This is a fit if you want to offload HR, benefits administration, and compliance management beyond just payroll.

Not sure which model applies? That’s what the initial call is for.
